POSITION: NDT Level II UT Quality Assurance Technician – Industrial Steel Fabrication

REPORTS TO: Plant Quality Assurance Director

A global leader in the manufacture of steel structures used in the electrical utility transmission and distribution industry has immediate openings for Non-destructive Testing (NDT) Level II Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Quality Assurance (QA) Technicians at its manufacturing facility in Sioux City, IA.  Reporting to the facility’s Quality Assurance Director, the NDT Level II UT QA Technician will perform inspections and audits for the utility products manufactured at this plant. The NDT Level II UT QA Technician works closely with company personnel to develop and execute supplier quality assurance action plans, provide project management support for suppliers, and track supplier progress and performance.




The NDT Level II UT QA Technician will inspect all products prior to release for shipment, performing supplier quality systems audits and using appropriate inspection methods to assess welds against industry quality standards. The NDTT Level II UT QA Technician will track project progress and status at a supplier. Essential functions and duties include the following:   


·         Performing dimensional and visual inspections of utility products.

·         Auditing utility inspections for compliance (visual, dimensional, NDT, reporting).

·         Overseeing manufacture of utility products for compliance with quality standards.

·         Overseeing utility production and shipping schedules.

·         Reporting any discrepancies observed to the Quality Manager on a daily basis.



·         ASNT Level II UT certification. Preferred: AWS CWI, ASQ certified Quality Auditor, and MT Level II credentials.

·         Five years of experience in heavy welding fabrication.

·         Knowledge of AWS D1.1 inspection criteria.

·         Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent training and experience.

·         Ability to read blueprints and interpret engineering specifications.

·         Computer skills (MS Word and EXCEL).

·         Project management experience.

·         Ability to perform with minimal supervision.

·         Proficient in writing technical reports.



Hourly wage up to $20, depending on skills and experience, plus wage increase for second shift work, and bonus and significant overtime income potential.
