Description: POSITION: Structural/Mechanical Engineer REPORTS TO: Division Vice President LOCATION: Raleigh, NC 27601 OVERVIEW A leading manufacturer/supplier of products and services used in the wireless communications industry has an immediate opening for a Structural/Mechanical Engineer at its facility located in the Raleigh, N.C., area. This facility is headquarters of the company’s division that supports turnkey services for both indoor and outdoor small cell and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) solutions for its customers. Reporting to the division Vice President, the Structural/Mechanical Engineer will prepare calculations, create designs, initiate production, and follow through with vendors and customers to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Structural/Mechanical will be directly involved with all levels of the product lines from concept to design to final installation. General responsibilities include: • Use engineering skills to prepare calculations for metal cabinet and pole structures; initiate, modify, and recommend approval of drawings. • Review drawings for production feasibility and cost impact. • Recommend/implement drawing changes for reduction in production time and ease of assembly. • Recommend design and production changes to meet cost targets. • Recommend/initiate production process changes to improve productivity. • Performs advanced design tasks including site preparation, structural, electrical layout and overall structural plans. • Provide technical input to managerial personnel regarding design, construction, or program modifications or structural repairs. • Interpret drawing during construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site. • Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. • Design energy efficient or environmentally sound structures. • Determine design specifications. • Initiate daily communication throughout organization and externally on project status. • Direct interaction with customers demonstrating quality process, production capability, and production status. • Travel with overnight stays to customer and vendor locations. • Promote proper business casual attire to portray a positive and professional image to the customer and coworkers.
Requirements: REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, or related field of study; lean certification a plus. • Five-plus years of engineering experience, preferably within a telecom service/design work environment. • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. • Knowledge of CAD systems and efficient use. Experience in AutoCAD/Inventor/Solidworks a plus. • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in cabinet, tubular and pole construction. • Knowledge of welding and associated codes. • Knowledge of sheet metal forming. • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. • Must work well in a group, or team environment. • Ability to communicate information through speech and in writing to be easily understood by all personal, internal and external. • Ability to stay abreast of industry trends, best practice, and customer standards. • Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedure and system.
Compensation: COMPENSATION Salary up to $85,000, depending on education, certifications and experience, plus full benefit package. Relocation allowance may be offered, as appropriate.
