Description: POSITION: General Manager REPORTS TO: Incumbent General Manager LOCATION: Hazelton, PA 18201 OVERVIEW A global leader in the manufacture of steel poles used in the utility industry has an immediate opening for a General Manager at its pole manufacturing facility located in Hazelton, PA. The General Manager will initially report to the incumbent GM who will be transitioning into retirement within the next 12 to 15 months. During this time, the incumbent GM and the General Manager will work side-by-side to manage the overall operations and profitability of the manufacturing plant while maintaining outstanding product quality and customer services. The nature of the position includes implementing and developing business practices where necessary. The General Manager also supervises the profitable and safe operation of the manufacturing function, and achieves this by motivating associates, scheduling operations and machine loading, overseeing proper maintenance and care of equipment, assuring a quality product, maintaining good management/associate relations, recommending new equipment and capital assets and controlling plant costs. The General Manager also must demonstrate a commitment to the company’s safety mission by providing support and resources to complete 100% of the site SBO plan, and must complete three documented site safety tours annually. The General Manager’s major challenge is to maintain a high level of teamwork and culture of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The General Manager has primary responsibility for the overall productivity of the plant and the quality of the products produced. Inherent in these responsibilities is managing the company’s ongoing safety program to minimize the frequency and severity of accidents, and lower lost time, incident rates and compensation cost year over year. The General Manager is the primary leader in dealing with problems and grievances of plant associates. He/she should be instrumental in setting the tone of teamwork in the plant. The General Manager will interact with associates in division accounting, sales, purchasing, production, engineering, drafting, customer service, manufacturing, and other corporate departments. Specific responsibilities include the following: • Satisfying customers through quality products and on time deliveries. • Obtaining an every improving high level of plant productivity through continuous improvement. • Coordinating with the Quality Manager and directs plant supervision in quality levels necessary to minimize rejects, reworks, and field problems. • Taking a primary leadership role in the company’s Lean initiatives for continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility. • Keeping abreast of new manufacturing technology and equipment. • Coordinating with the EHS Manager and advising an ongoing safety program to minimize frequency and severity of accidents. • Maintaining a secure plant with a minimal loss of tools and inventory. • Evaluating man-hour requirements in unusual and large jobs to assist production scheduling and the sales force. • Reviewing reports to analyze department and associate performance levels. • Assisting in preparing, implementing, and monitoring the annual plan and various financial reports and statistics to ensure adherence to short and long range financial goals. • Administering policies and procedures to ensure maximum productivity and thru-put, reduce operating cost, support Lean activities and ensure the safest possible plant operations while maintaining good labor relations. • Providing leadership to ensure a safe workplace. • Developing and providing leadership to implement various human resource programs and policies to ensure good plant relationships and a culture of creativity and continuous improvement. • Providing leadership to develop goals and objectives of the Hazleton site to meet the growth plans of the Division and ensure teamwork between Corporate, Divisional and Hazleton Staff. • Ensuring that customer satisfaction is high by providing excellent service, a high level of quality, and keeping commitments of on time delivery.
Requirements: REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management or related field is essential; MBA is strongly preferred. • Seven to 10 years of experience as a manager or senior supervisor in a metal fabrication environment that exhibits the candidate’s skills and capabilities to meet the principle accountabilities of the position. • Analytical abilities and decision-making skills are critical to the performance of the function. • Strong communication skills are important for effective expression of information. This is necessary for the personal growth of the incumbent and the efficient operation of the Hazleton site. • Must be skilled in the use of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Products with direct experience with Business Management Software systems.
Compensation: COMPENSATION Initial base salary of $125,000 with compensation adjusted upwards upon the retirement of the incumbent GM. Performance bonus up to 10 percent (capped at 2X), full benefit package, and relocation/moving allowance.
