Description: POSITION: Human Resources Manager REPORTS TO: Human Resources Director LOCATION: Newton, IA 50208 SUMMARY A global leader in the manufacture of steel structures used in electrical transmission applications has an immediate opening for a Human Resources Manager at its manufacturing facility in Newton, IA. Reporting to the company’s Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Manager has overall responsibility for managing human resources within the facility’s budget expectation relative to cost, quality, and service, and is responsible for having and maintaining expertise in modern human resources practices, techniques, planning and control of systems.
Responsibilities: RESPONSIBILITIES The Human Resources Manager is directly responsible for supporting HR operations, systems and processes to assure that the facility is financially and operationally successful and legally compliant. Main responsibilities fall into these categories: Recruitment, Compensation &Benefits • Manage all internal and external recruitment and staffing efforts to support current business strategies. • Develop and administer hourly and salaried employee compensation system and employee performance appraisal system. • Administer all company benefits including Medical, Dental, STD, LTD, Basic Life insurance, Voluntary Life insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Flexible Spending Accounts, Employee Assistance Program, Adoption Benefits, Tuition Assistance 401K, pension, vision, and other voluntary benefit choices. Employee Relations • Responsible for employee relations including investigation, mediation and conflict resolution in response to employee grievances. • Respond to/manage/comply with all applicable government reporting requirements and legal inquires such as EEOC and discrimination complaints, Department of Labor issues and Worker’s Compensation mediations. • Design, implement and administer Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity plans and programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory and company mandates and requirements. Safety • Understand, follow/support all plant safety and loss prevention policies and procedures. • Be fully supportive of lean manufacturing and management principles. Organizational Development • Assess and implement training and development programs. • Use training and coaching strategies that ensure that the management team is involving employees at all levels in day-to-day decisions that impact the business. • Work with Plant Manager on personal development plan. Operational Support • Participate in or lead special assigned projects (or lead project teams) that support both the HR function as well as the company’s business. • Support quality systems and follow ISO requirements. • Suggest ways to eliminate waste and continually improve processes. • Be actively involved in all aspects of manufacturing. • Manage and control plant security, employee break room.
Requirements: REQUIREMENTS • B.A. or M.A. in human resources management, business administration or related field. • Three to five years experience in human resources management in an industrial manufacturing environment (preferably steel manufacturing with emphasis on welding) with exposure to Lean thinking systems. • Demonstrated management skills with the ability to lead/manage direct reports. • Problem-solving abilities and techniques. • Working knowledge of employment laws and regulations. • Ability to interact, communicate and work effectively with all levels of employees and visitors.
Compensation: COMPENSATION Salary of $80,000, plus benefit package. Local candidates preferred.
