Description: POSITION: Lean Manufacturing Coach/Champion – Industrial Steel Manufacturing/Fabrication REPORTS TO: General Manager of Manufacturing Plant LOCATION: Houston, TX 77064 OVERVIEW A leading diversified manufacturer of products used in the construction and utility industries has an immediate opening for a Lean Manufacturing Coach/Champion to support the company’s utility towers/poles manufacturing processes (utility business unit). The Lean Manufacturing Coach/Champion will be sited at the company’s manufacturing plant in Houston, TX, and will report to the plant’s General Manager. This non-supervisory position requires in-depth knowledge and experience in Lean methodologies, self-starter initiative, excellent communication skills, and a team-building approach to develop strong working relationships with manufacturing team members across the company’s utility business unit.
Responsibilities: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Lean Manufacturing Coach/Champion will ensure full Lean education and implementation in all functional areas at the manufacturing plant level to ensure consistency and sustainability. Specific duties and responsibilities include the following: • Develop and implement a Strategic Lean Roadmap for the Houston facility. • Define Current State and Future State value stream maps. • Define projects to drive gap closure at the plant from Current State towards Future State. • Facilitate Lean events and provide training for event participants in the required Lean tools necessary for success. • Utilize data available in safety, quality and productivity to define strategic Lean events to provide highest levels of financial rewards. • Responsible for the evolution and effectiveness of plant and department KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). • Lead audits as required to ensure the sustainment of gains made during Lean events. • Identify obstacles that would prevent long term success of a Lean cultural transformation. • Develop and maintain Lean transformation plan including value stream maps to identify key opportunities to eliminate waste and improve performance based on strategy deployment and business results. • Lead Lean Assessment preparation and develop improvement plan based on assessment results. • Collaborate with plant leaders to execute improvement plans (Managing for Daily Improvement), utilizing and constantly improving the visual management on the shop floor and in the office areas. Drive all levels of leaders to implement continuous improvement and eliminate flow inhibitors (anything that prevents the company from satisfying our customers)
Requirements: REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in industrial manufacturing processes or related discipline. • Five-plus years of experience in application of Lean principles, including but not limited to TPM, FLOW, Project management, Quality at the Source, 5S, Kaizen events, Policy Deployment, and Root Cause Analysis. Experience in Minitab a strong plus. • Excellent teaching/training skills. • Ability to influence. • Strong knowledge of MS Office, MRP. • Experience in change management.
Compensation: COMPENSATION Base salary of $80,000 to $85,000 with performance bonus, plus comprehensive benefit plan. Local candidates preferred.
