Description: POSITION: Divisional Manager of Quality Systems – Steel Manufacturing/Fabrication REPORTS TO: Vice President of Operational Excellence LOCATION: Birmingham, AL 35243 BASIC FUNCTION: A leading manufacturer of steel utility structures used in the electrical transmission industry has an immediate opening for a Divisional Manager of Quality Systems at its business offices in Birmingham, AL. Reporting to the Vice President of Operational Excellence/Utility Division, the Divisional Manager of Divisional Quality Systems is responsible for the implementation and auditing of the company’s total quality management process, developing quality procedures, implementing quality training and communicating the results of the quality efforts of various business units within the company’s Utility Division facilities.
Responsibilities: KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Divisional Manager of Quality Systems has these duties and responsibilities: • Analyze and evaluate manufacturing and quality processes to identify improvement opportunities and review new processes for possible integration. • Make technical and statistical investigations to resolve and correct quality-related issues. • Establish strategic direction for quality-related activities to align with the company and divisional business initiatives. • Audit all Utility Division steel facilities to ensure that all quality, work Instructions, and required Industry Standards/Codes are being followed; develop corrective action procedures to ensure that compliance is met. • Be actively involved in competency assessments and gap analyses. Drive, facilitate and enable operational excellence across all sites. • Promote the standardization of work procedures and QA procedures at all sites as well as auditing these processes. • Establish Quality Leadership Teams in the Steel Business units of the Utility Division. • Establish QA training programs for the Division, i.e.: TQM, SPC, and Print Reading. • Develop and track Divisional Quality Measurements, i.e.: First Pass Yield • Assist in maintaining all AISC and other registrations and deemed necessary. • Perform data gathering, analysis, and distribution of quality-related data to aid in identifying improvement opportunities. • Observe operating activities throughout all product areas; make recommendations, develop action plans, and follow up to ensure that action plans are effectively implemented. • Develop policies and procedures for inspection of various manufactured and purchased products; establish a Vendor Certification Program with Purchasing. • Promote Quality Partnerships with Suppliers and Customers. • Seek external contacts to benchmark the Divisions Quality programs for effectiveness and scope. • Act as facilitator, trainer, and resource for site Quality teams and individuals. • Help manage certification processes through site Quality Assurance Leaders.
Requirements: REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline. • ASNT certified in Ultrasonic Testing and Mag-Particle Testing. • Three to five years of experience in managing QA systems in a manufacturing environment, preferably industrial steel fabrication. • Knowledge of TQM/ ISO and AISC processes and the experience or ability to implement, audit, and follow-through within the organization. • Ability to develop and facilitate training programs to compliment the TQM process. • Thorough knowledge of AWS processes and procedures. • Solid understanding of statistical methods to improve company and vendor performance. • Ability to interpret quality instructions, drawings, and specifications used in the processing and production of the Division’s products. Must have knowledge and experience in NDT Methods; ie.-UT, MT, PT.
Compensation: COMPENSATION Base salary of $100,000 plus performance bonus up to four percent and full benefit package. Relocation allowance offered as appropriate.
